Day 2 – August 12
Today was a free day in Miraflores, and the group split up to explore the city on our own. Even though it’s overcast, Lima is a beautiful city. The views of the ocean were incredible while walking to the beach. The locals are very active here, many people surfing, running and walking their dogs. Some of the streets were shut down in the city for people to ride their bikes, rollerblade and skateboard. Lima’s sense of community, health and wellness were very inspiring.
For the remainder of the day, a small group and I explored the city. We went through the John F. Kennedy park, AKA the “cat park”. We looked at paintings by 7 de Junio park, and walked through markets. The highlight of the day was eating lunch at Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Incan pyramid.
Tomorrow we will reconvene as a group and officially start our medical mission!
