Jacob Shermatero – 8/15

Today in Lima we got the chance to visit the oldest hospital in Peru and focuses on providing medical care to the poorest of the Peruvian population. We were able to participate in rounds while in the internal medicine building where all of the patient’s beds are side by side in a main room. It was an incredibly eye opening experience seeing how universal care is provided to those in need despite lacking the resources we are used to in the U.S. Afterwards we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon trying new foods at an authentic Peruvian restaurant and visiting the market where I got a blanket made from alpaca fur! This picture is from the courtyard next to the hospital’s emergency room.
