Monday August 14th:
Today we visited Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, the oldest medical school in the Americas (open since 1551). The faculty Dean, Vice Dean, and faculty were incredibly gracious and were eager to teach. Their Pharmacy school is the only one in Peru with botanical gardens, where they research over 400 species of plants from all over the world for medicinal uses. It was truly amazing, I learned so much from their gardens and it made me reflect on how our osteopathic program could benefit from ecorporating well researched natural remedies in our curriculum. I am so grateful for them taking their time to help us grow as future physicians.
Other things I did today were: relaxing by the ocean, walking through a cat park, shopping at a flea market, going to a chocolate museum, and exploring Mira Flores.
