Our first day in Peru consisted of an exploration of Lima. Today was relaxing while we went and visited several attractions. The catacombs were fascinating. They are an underground cemetery where 20,000 bodies are buried underneath a Catholic Church in the center of Lima. I experienced my first taste of civiche, a specialty fish dish. The fish is uncooked but cured with lemon and lime juice which made all of the flavors of the fish citrusy and robust. Today was a perfect day of fun and rest, which was much needed after the long flights. It was a great start to our two week journey here in Peru.
