George Park – Downpours and catfish

Today was our last day on the boat clinic. It was kind of bittersweet knowing that we were done with clinic so we could relax for a few days yet I felt like there were still a lot of people to help. We got out to a local village and immediately it started down pouring. I had never seen it rain so hard and it rained for hours. Unfortunately due to the rain we didn’t have too many patients but we were able to help those we saw nonetheless. I feel like I have learned more about clinical skills during this trip than in my entire first year of medical school. In the afternoon we went piranha fishing. The technique was completely different than any other fishing because apparently piranhas are attracted to noise. It really was old school fishing with a stick, string, and a hook. Our boat caught a couple catfish but no luck with piranhas. It truly is amazing some of the things we have been able to do during this trip. Things to cross off of my bucket list and things I had never imagined being able to do especially this soon in my life.
