Canopy walk – Emily

A day off from clinic! However, this didn’t mean an easy relaxing day. Half of the group got to meet at 5:30am for a 2-hour speedboat ride down the Amazon. Many of us used this opportunity to nap. We were fed a hearty breakfast upon arriving and then split into 3 groups of roughly 10 people each. It took about 40 minutes to get to the canopy, stopping to hear about various flora and fauna along the way. The coolest being when our guide stabbed a tree with a knife, releasing a flow of liquid rubber, which congealed in hand. The canopy walk was terrifying while thrilling at the same time. We maxed out at an altitude of 118 feet above ground. When we made it back to base we ate lunch before walking over to their medicinal gardens for some demonstrations. It was a very exciting day!
