Today was the best day by far; it was the first day of clinic. When we walked in we were like celebrities. There were police, people were clapping and there was a video camera. It was similar to what I feel like Justin Bieber encounters.
I started in general medicine and it was crazy. Once I started swing my own patients the morning flew by. I saw some really cool cases. After a great lunch I helped out in radiology and helped fix the X-Ray. I definitely increased my ability in reading x-rays and ultrasounds which will definitely be helpful in the future. I even used the ultrasound myself to find gallstones which almost made me feel like a real doctor.
After a really long but fulfilling day, we had dinner at this super cool restaurant in Iquitos. It was a busy crazy day but so amazing. Everyone was so thankful, it really puts into perspective what we take for granted. Especially because the local hospital is on strike, we are likely the only care for these people at least for now, but possibly until this group returns next year. Today made me excited for helping people the rest of this trip.
