Today is the official end of our mission trip. Tomorrow we head back to Lima and our group will split. Some of us will head to Cusco and others will continue home. It has truly been an incredible experience that I will never forget; many new friendships and connections made, and so many adventures completed. This morning started off going to Monkey Island. It?s a nature preserve that rescues monkeys that are abused or sold on the black market. It was a lot of fun playing with the monkeys and feeding them bananas. They also had a sloth and some macaws. It is great to see that there is a community in the middle of the Amazon that pulls together to try to preserve the wildlife in the area for others to enjoy. After lunch a group of us went piranha fishing?and I can officially say I caught my first piranha! It was such a fun time out on the Amazon River with some classmates. We almost got caught in a really bad storm on our way back but we just got to the dock as the rain started. I can?t believe how fast this trip is going by, and there is still so much more to do. We have truly been blessed to have such an amazing opportunity and to be able to share this time together. Our physicians have taught us so much, as well as the people of Peru. These experiences will forever shape the type of physician I will become as I continue on this medical journey.
