First knee injection – Emily Langnas

Today was another busy day in the clinic! Even though it was pouring rain in the morning when we arrived there, the line of people waiting was wrapped around the corner. I got to work with Dr. Madgy in ENT. He was really great and encouraged me to improve my Spanish by speaking with the patients as best as I could. One young girl had a large mass on the back of her tongue and was given a hospital referral. It was interesting because she could breathe and swallow just fine and there wasn’t any pain. For the second shift, I worked in general medicine with Dr. Abraham. She taught me to how to prepare knee injection and she let me do it! This was my first injection. For dinner we went to a restaurant in the middle of the Amazon river. We had to take a boat to it in the pitch black and the water was so eerie. The restaurant served a delicious dish with fish and there was a DJ and flashing color lights. We went down to the dance floor afterwards and I had a great time with everyone! Coming back to the hotel, we all sat together by the pool and enjoyed each other’s company. Tomorrow is day three of the clinic and I can’t wait to see more people!
