The Gardens of Medicine – Sarah Short

We are all settling down on day 4 and getting to know each other even better. My favorite part so far has been discovering all the new secrets of Peru – things that we never would’ve seen if we had chosen to travel separate from the MSUCOM family.

Today we visited the Universidad de San Marcos, the oldest medical school in Peru. The facilities themselves were breathtaking, from the courtyard to the old auditorium to the sim labs! We were even given exclusive access to their botanical gardens and learned all about various herbal remedies that are used for a variety of ailments. Everyone was excited to learn of the uses of these plants, which is important to remember as we embark on our next journey to Iquitos where we will be working with patients who often rely on natural remedies as their main form of medicine. As osteopaths, it is important that we understand exactly where our patients come from and what care they truly need from us. Today gave us exactly that!
Overall, this has been an amazing journey and I am beyond excited to see what each next day has in store.
Until next time…Adios amigos!
