Katelyn Phelps, DO, is one of the physicians who has been participating on Medical Mission Peru trips. She has been conducting research with students, and she recently presented some of their findings on a poster at the National Lipid Association Scientific Session in Chicago. This specific project investigated lipid and hemoglobin levels in Peruvian children, and some interesting findings were discovered. Along with garnering interest in the trip itself from some of the other participants, the research also caught the attention of a particular doctor interested in rare diseases. Dr. Phelps was interviewed for the website Rare Disease Report, and the video can be seen below.
