Today was our second day in the clinic in Iquitos. In the morning, I rotated in pediatrics and I was able to see a lot of everyday conditions as well as a few cases of more serious pathology. I really appreciated Dr. Fannon sharing his knowledge and advice with each patient that we saw. Every child we saw received their necessary meds, multivitamins, and a toothbrush and toothpaste.
In the afternoon, I worked in podiatry with Dr. Athens. I was fortunate enough to be in on an incision and drainage for a woman with a Madura foot. Dr Athens also taught us how to perform other procedures and anesthesia injections.
I leaned a great deal about medicine today and it was great to put my book knowledge and clinical skills to use. I am greatly appreciative of the attending physicians we are able to work with on this trip.
